I spotted a tutorial at Make It and Love It, one of my favorite sewing blogs, on how to make this cute fishy bag and I just had to make it for Grace. She loves purses and I knew she would love this little fishy bag. I also knew it was the perfect project for a lazy day since it uses very little fabric and I knew it would help me use up a bunch of fabric scraps that I had laying around from old projects. I actually had the blue lining fabric for the underside of the scales and inside of the purse leftover from a Halloween costume I made for my husband in 2003!
It turned out so cute and it works like a charm. It has a strap so Grace can carry it around like a purse and it also has a drawstring closure so she can keep all of her treasures locked up safe and sound.I like that it is sturdy and I lined it with a thick interfacing so it keeps its' shape even when it is empty.
Check out the tutorial here in case you would like to make one for a little girl in your life, or add another strap and turn it into a backpack for a little boy you know. I even used a few extra scraps to make a little matching zippered coin purse for her. Check out a how to here if you are interested in making one as well.
